Water Bottle

While on expedition you will need to drink, a water bottle is the obvious choice for this!

You don’t need to spend a lot on a water bottle, as long as it’s not glass you can’t go far wrong.

You can buy bottles of water from any shop and these bottles are generally refillable. If you want a better water bottle then all outdoor shops sell a range of them. If you buy plastic then make sure its a ‘BPA free’ one, these are generally the only ones available now anyway. plastic bottles have been tried and tested in the outdoor industry for years and there are many different options, I prefer a wide necked bottle as they are easier to fill.

You could also buy an aluminium water bottle, these tend to be a bit tougher but apart from that have no real advantage over the plastic ones.

There are 2 other options for carrying water and these are either a bladder or a roll up bottle, the big advantage of the bladder is it will stay in your rucksack with a tube and attached mouthpiece that clips near your chest, you can then drink at will while walking, I find I drink more like this, it’s by far the most convenient. Collapsible water bottles have the advantage that they take up very little room when not full and are a useful addition to carry as you can fill them at camp to have plenty of water available while cooking and over night without constantly running backwards and forwards to the tap.

I would always use at least 2 of these methods, probably an aluminium water bottle for most of the day and a collapsible type for camp. It’s really down to personal preference, the choice is yours.
